Project Summary
Set on the shorefront of a small fishing village in the North East of Scotland, is Grade C Listed townhouse, Sea Haven. With a sensitive refurbishment of the existing form in addition to a new contemporary extension, Seahaven is restored to become an intimate, private family home.
ak|a centred its approach on creating a timeless balance between old and new. Functional rooms within the existing stone form are blended with a spacious open plan living and kitchen area within the new extension.
Using a sympathetic materials palette of glazed features, Abodo timber cladding and reclaimed local stone- the new extension is contemporary in spirit yet rooted in the rich cultural heritage of its setting. To capture the panoramic views over the shoreline, expansive glazed elements to the ground floor and first floor of the extension were included. The addition of exposed timber fins, elevates the design and reaffirms the home's connection to its wider setting.
Careful craftmanship and considered design makes Sea Haven a triumph of collaborative design, team effort and considered placemaking.
