Project Summary
Located in the heart of Chapel of Garioch adjacent to the Parish Church, the Old Post Office has been converted to a tearoom and the existing adjoining house has been restored to create a modern family home. A Scottish Larch clad garden room extension has also now been completed which opens out onto a South facing garden.
A conservative approach was taken to retain as much of the existing character as possible and to put life back into such a local iconic building. The interior features of the old post office have been restored including the beautiful original shelving, timber boarding, staircase and original fireplaces.
The quaint atmosphere and charming character of the Old Post office has been retained. The external walls were patch repaired using a match lime render and lime wash. The new dwelling and tearoom are serviced by a wood pellet stove which supplements the buildings heating demands. New conservation rooflights to the first floor enhance solar gain to the interiors and in turn create a lovely, light and open environment to live. The Old Post office has provided an exciting, new and unique business at the heart of the village, whilst saving the wonderful building and providing sustainable future for itself and the Chapel of Garioch.
