Project Summary
Ruined Lessendrum House Doocot is a category-B listed building remnant of one of the north-east's most historic estates. Changes and trends in culture result in buildings like this no longer being appropriate for their original purpose. Therefore a new use must be found to protect and save this listed building. ak|a have proposals to extend the structure to create a contemporary and sustainable family home; the proposals have been approved by local councillor's.
The design intends to keep the integrity and the appearance of the existing building.
By retaining the appearance of the Doocot as the principle element, the new structure will be 'lowered' into the ground to the south. The connection between the two forms is a light structured glass box, only just touching the structure of the existing Dovecot.
The proposals demonstrate a low-impact new element to the site, which saves a listed building and brings life back into the site, whilst providing a unique and exciting new dwelling house.
