Project Summary
The Cabrach was formerly a notorious area for whisky distillation and smuggling with a thriving rural population. Our client The Cabrach Trust is a charity registered to develop a thriving highland community in the Cabrach. The proposed first stage of the project, that is located at Inverharroch Farm, is to create a social enterprise that will operate the new Cabrach Heritage Centre housing a number of functions: An operating historical malt whisky distillery, permanent exhibition: the story of the Cabrach community and whisky smuggling, temporary exhibition space and cafe & Retail area.
The Cabrach Heritage Centre will provide a modern, comfortable state of the art visitor facility located in the heart of Speyside and rural Moray. The Centre will celebrate this rich birth right describing the as yet untold story of the early days of farm distilling and the smuggling which was rife in the area.
The visitor centre will be an entertaining and educational experience, and with a dedicated interpretation centre, flexible performance and exhibition space, smuggling trails, and is designed to appeal to whisky enthusiasts, heritage lovers and children alike.
The Centre will bring all that is great about this part of rural Scotland to both domestic and international visitors. The historical distillery associated with the visitor centre will showcase traditional whisky production from smuggling days and will produce a highly collectible premium malt whisky. The café will offer quality local foods and produce, and the exhibitions and shop will feature local designers and artists amongst other high quality goods.
