ak|a have developed proposals for a small scale housing development on the outskirts of Tarves in rural Aberdeenshire. The site comprises of a derelict farmhouse, redundant farm steading, thresher store and storage sheds.
The proposed development includes alterations and extension of the existing farmhouse and steading, retaining the existing character of the buildings, yet creating contemporary living accommodation. The proposals for the Thresher and Store buildings is for demolition of the existing timber structures and replacement with two dwelling houses.
The proposed dwellings utilise a simple palette of external materials including natural slate, drystone walling pale wet dash render, home-grown timber cladding and painted timber windows and doors. Building forms and proportions have been established by studying the vernacular forms and details of buildings in the surrounding area.
